How Good Was Tim Howard's Performance Against Belgium?

Tim Howard's 17 shot stopping effort against Belgium has been hailed as the "best ever" World Cup performance. But how good was it and what do displays, such as Tim Krul's penalty shootout heroics say about knee jerk reactions based on small sample sizes.

  1. I think you may be underrating Krul's performance.

    For me Krul's good performance was more about guessing the right way 5/5 times rather than saving 2/5. That's exceptional if the keeper is only deciding between left and right, and even better if centre is an option too.

    Also is 22% the chance of a single on-target penalty being saved? I'd have assumed it was higher as a lot of failed penalties aren't on target in the first place.
